Counseling for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees ("UMF")
For whom is the counseling?
Unaccompanied minor refugees as well as their care takers and care facilities in Bielefeld and its surroundings
Who does the counseling?
Members of AK Asyl Bielefeld staff; if necessary, legal or medical experts may be consulted
What does the counseling help with?
In a first meeting, the adolescents are informed about their rights and duties as unaccompanied minor refugees. The counseling includes information on the residence and asylum proceedings as well as on questions about the Child and Youth Welfare Law (“Kinder- und Jugendhilferecht”) and guardianship proceedings before the family court. In case of an application for asylum, the adolescents are also prepared for the upcoming interview at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees („Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge” – BAMF). At the interview, they are accompanied by their guardians or care takers.
This counseling takes place in close cooperation with the so called clearing houses and other institutions for child and youth welfare in Bielefeld and its surroundings where the adolescents are accommodated. Furthermore, we offer trainings and further education for the staff members of these institutions and the youth welfare office (“Jugendamt”) as well as for guardians and volunteers on a regular basis.
